Wisdom and Knowledge
There are many different perspectives on the differences between wisdom and knowledge. Knowledge is knowing information. When a person has a lot of knowledge they know a lot of facts, and are very book smart. When a person knows how to use all of the information they posses then I consider the person to have wisdom. Knowledge is all of the stuff a person knows, and wisdom is how a person uses it. Wisdom comes with age. Usually a older person has a lot of wisdom because they have been through a lot of different situations, and they know how to react to a certain situation because of all the knowledge they posses. A person with a lot of knowledge could just enjoy studying a lot, so they are really smart, but they do not know how to respond to real life obstacles. I think that in the classroom we mostly accumulate knowledge. A lot of the things we learn at school is information. For example, a lot of older people tell me that they do not use anything that they learned in college. They just went to college to get a degree to receive a diploma and get a higher paying job. I think that wisdom is not something a person can just read in a book and learn. Wisdom is learn through experience and going through certain situations and learning how to respond to them. I feel like wisdom is a way more important thing in life then just knowledge itself.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I think that knowledge is all about knowing information like facts and things from a book. In a way you could say that knowledge is like being book smart. Where as wisdom comes from experiences and situations that you face in life and how you react to it. When you think of both knowledge and wisdom like you said how wisdom is how you use all of the information you posses is how you gain knowledge. That is how come I feel like knowledge and wisdom are so closely intertwined. You can see how it seems that you cannot have one with out the other. But, they differ because wisdom is gained over time.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you as well. I think knowledge is knowing facts and information , but wisdom is understanding how to use those facts and information that have been acquired . I believe that after fully understanding a subjects true wisdom and be achieved. In college people use the information they learn as new knowledge but the wisdom they acquired is what they can give back after experiencing a certain matter or subject they have learned and reflected from. I also believe that wisdom is an important virtue. Although I agree with you on this I think that Wisdom and knowledge coincide together to form the ultimate form of knowing and understanding.
ReplyDeleteHi Eric,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your post and thought you explained the differences very well. If someone is able to apply their knowledge, then it sort of shifts from knowledge to wisdom. I also think that older people tend to have more wisdom and if you had a problem and needed advice, you would turn to someone who is likely older and may have been in the same situation with as you as opposed to your little sister who gets straight A’s and has a lot of knowledge. I believe that both knowledge and wisdom are both important but feel that someone with more wisdom has more credibility than someone with just knowledge.
